    Chinese police disperse protestors
    Big News Network (UPI)
    Sunday 24th April, 2005

Chinese police officers Sunday dispersed thousands of people gathered to demonstrate against Japan in Zhuhai City.

The Japanese Embassy in Beijing and Japanese consulates across China have told their nationals to be on alert because of anti-Japan demonstrations expected during the weekend. But the only protest was in Zhuhai City, the Kyodo news agency reported.

In Beijing, security was tightened at the Japanese Embassy where protests and vandalism occurred earlier this month.

The demonstrators had protested against Japan's bid for U.N. Security Council permanent membership and against new Japanese textbooks they say gloss over Japan's past aggression.
