The New York State Thruway Authority is now providing e-mailed traffic information updates.

The e-mailed traffic advisories, called TRANSalert, provide information on traffic, weather, construction and emergency situation on the Thruway. The goal, according to Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael Fleischer, is to provide drivers with the latest information on the road so they can make decisions about when and where to travel.

The e-mails are a component of the authority's Thruway Regional Advisory Network System, which also employs highway advisory radio to inform drivers about traffic delays and construction.

Customers can sign up for the e-mail traffic information at the Thruway Authority Web site, www.nysthruway.gov.
