Devil Rays add Miceli to bullpen

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed journeyman reliever Dan Miceli to a two-year contract Thursday with a club option for the 2008 season.

Miceli, who will be playing for his 10th major league team, spent the 2005 campaign with Colorado and went 1-2 with a 5.89 earned run average in 19 appearances. He missed the final two months of the season with a bruised left foot.

The 35-year-old righthander owns a 42-50 overall record with 35 saves and a 4.51 ERA in 598 career outings. He saved a personal-best 21 games with the Pirates in 1995.

Miceli has previously pitched for Pittsburgh, Detroit, San Diego, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Cleveland, the New York Yankees and Houston in 13 major- league seasons.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Tampa Bay designated righthander Franklin Nunez for assignment. Nunez has appeared in 13 games, all in relief, with the Devil Rays over the past two years and recorded a 1-3 record and a 7.47 ERA.
