11 Siberian tigers die of malnutrition in China zoo
    China National News
    Thursday 11th March, 2010
    (IANS)

Eleven Siberian tigers have died of malnutrition at a zoo in China in the past three months, a wild life official said.

The tigers of the Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo in northeast China's Lianoning province died due to malnutrition rather than infectious diseases, said Liu Xiaoqiang, vice chief of the Shenyang Wild Animal Protection Station.

The tigers were fed only cheap chicken bones as the zoo was not doing very well financially, Xinhua quoted Liu as saying.

In November last year, two hungry tigers of the sanctuary mauled a zoo worker who suffered serious injuries. After the incident, the local administration asked the zoo authorities to keep the animals in cages, which further deteriorated their health, Liu said.

Since November, 2009, Shenyang Qipanshan Administration Committee has been providing the zoo with appropriate food worth 18,000 yuan ($2.636) a day. But many tigers already had intestinal infections or kidney failure caused by the lack of food and died later, Liu added.

11 Siberian tigers die of malnutrition in China zoo

This is a very heart breaking story, to hear that 11 magnificent Siberian tigers, already threatened with extinction worldwide, died from malnutrition in the Shengyang wildlife zoo of China. China has established clear policies to protect wildlife, especially large animals like tigers. Who is to blame for such mistreatment of the animals? Why was not enough food for the animlas ? The culprits must be caught, and removed from administering to the welfare of these animlas. One death is already too many for these precious, big cats. Let us protect them. Let us protect, preserve the species, for China, and for all the world.

Brain dead administrators who cannot rhyme nor reason nor act responsibly

This is what happens when people, especially those in office, are brain dead and cannot humanly respond with common sense to the tragedy that already occured 2 years ago. There is such a thing called adoption and a human trait called flexibility. More so, such deaths are totally unacceptable when the Chinese govt is sitting on a mountain of gold. Unfortunately, brain dead kills but they are too brain dead to know and too proud/too lazy to ask for help until it is too late.
