Jackie Chan among least trustworthy Hong Kong people
China National News Monday 1st March, 2010 (IANS)
Movie star Jackie Chan has been voted one of the least trustworthy Hong Kong personalities in a poll, scoring lower than the city's unpopular Chief Executive Donald Tsang.
Chan, 56, who stunned his home city last year by saying Chinese people needed to be controlled and that too much freedom might harm China, finished behind Beijing-appointed Tsang, who ranked 77th out of 80 in the most-trusted poll.
Hong Kong's most trustworthy personality was philanthropist and anti child-abuse campaigner Josephine Siao. Olympic gold medallist Lee Lai-shan and champion cyclist Wong Kam-po also finished in the top 10.
Another famous Hong Kong actor, Chow Yun-fat, ranked sixth in the annual poll by Reader's Digest magazine which involved online interviews with 760 people and was published in Hong Kong newspapers Friday.
The least trusted profession was fortune teller, the poll found, following a celebrated case in which a feng shui master tried unsuccessfully to claim the $13-billion fortune of Asia's richest woman Nina Wang using an allegedly forged will.
Insurance agents and property and stocks traders also finished in the bottom five professions for trustworthiness.
The most trusted professions in the poll were firefighters, medical technicians, doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacists and dentists.

Jackie Chan among least trustworthy Hong Kong peopleInteresting in that I see the opposite - as Donald Tsang saved HK during the Asian crisis of 1997 when complete nations (S.Korea was one) were eaten by the IMF & World bank,
Jackie is one of my favorite actors lives & invests his mega bucks in Hong Kong and has traveled enough to see that too much of anything is harmfull - as too much freedom at the beginning of national development will create a new warlords era.
Chow Yun-Fat in the movie Confucious was the most talented actor I can imagine.
Whereas those mentioned as ranking high are only a flash in the pan as they are here today - gone tomorrow.
Doctors and Dentists make theirs from the more pain - the more ca$h.
Firefighters are born to be great heros - they follow their Karma. |

Jackie Chan, a true disappointment for People of Hong KongUnfortunately I failed to share Mr. Croft’s positivity of Mr. Chan’s opinion. Grew up in Hong Kong, we the average people enjoys our freedom, free speech and free investment in Hong Kong. Without the British Government, Hong Kong would have never been one of the most important financial centre in the world. Even though the way how the British gained the control of Hong Kong was some what less desireable. Mr. Chan is a mega star and like many mega stars in Hollywood, he makes good money because of the viewers. Most importantly, he made his fame in Hong Kong, a place that the people of Hong Kong gave him that fame and fortune. The same people that enjoys freedom and a free world put him on the map of stardom. I cannot imagine if his career started in Communist China that he would have gain such fame. It was sad and pity that he spoke like an idiot and not think of WHO and WHERE that gave him his fame and fortune. Perhaps Mr. Chan should go to China and stays in China for the rest of his career, may be he will truly appreciate why the people of Hong Kong dislikes him so much. But wait, it is too late now because we have already made him famous in Hong Kong, a place that he thinks it needs less freedom. What an ungrateful piece of rubbish! If you cannot be grateful, then shut your piehole! |

Freedom & liberty are gained when mutual trust pre-exist, and barriers dismantledIt is one thing to inherit 1.3 billion people and have to manage, guide, coach and develop a system just so they can provide for themselves in an orderly manner, it is another to own a barren rock and start developing it from scratch. The British’s position in Hong Kong is a luxury that China does not have, given history and population size, and that time will not allow. But at some point of development when the general population of China become better educated, mature better in judgments and respond well to rationales and reasonings, then China will have to decide if it wants to follow the pattern of Hong Kong, or of Singapore, or Taiwan and shape its people accordingly so the best potentials of its people can be realized just like the Chinese in these places, and the quality of life improved. That’s said, having the liberty to pursue one’s fortunes without any racial or social barrier is freedom. Political freedom is only necessary when such liberties are unfairly blocked within the system. If racial and social justices exist in China, coupled with a high level of trust, then liberty and freedom would have gained strong positions in China. However, trust can only come by with a more thorough eradication of corruption. That takes strong committments. Learn from HK’s ICAC. |

HK under Britain is not FreeA lot of HKers educated by Britain are propagandized and studied a fictional history. Do you know no HK resident know anything about the Opium war? That goes to tell you.
In colonies, most of the citizens think they are free citizens but the fact is they arent. If western colonial masters are appointed and not elected to lead the colony in the interest of western master nation instead of the residents who are treated as second class citizens on their own land, how can you say they are free.
Freedom is an illusion. Democracy, Communism they are all words and ideals. Real truth is the whole world lives in the same system= feudalist plutocracy. |

DEMOCRACY MEANS LAWS AND ORDERSThere are many levels of democracies - conservative, middle ground, and liberal. There are others that want ultra liberal democracy - complete freedom of do what you want: breaking the laws and harrasing your neighbours.
All countries must have laws and orders to control the people from harming others. Quality of life is respecting laws and orders. For the Hong Kong people, make sure your democracy leaders know their directions and not fall into the trap of allowing protests and riots on a continueous basis. |
