Last Indochinese tiger in China killed and eaten by a villager
    China National News
    Tuesday 22nd December, 2009
    (ANI)

Beijing, Dec 22: The last Indochinese tiger in China was killed and eaten by a man, who has been sentenced to 12 years' jail.

Kang Wannian, a villager from Mengla, Yunnan Province, came across the tiger in February while gathering freshwater clams in a nature reserve near China's border with Laos.

Wannian has claimed that he killed the tiger after dark in self-defense and did not know it was an endangered Indochinese tiger, The Telegraph reported.

Only around 1,300 to 1,800 Indochinese tigers are estimated to be living in the wild, and the tiger killed by Kang was thought to be the only Indochinese tiger ever seen in China.

It was reported that Kang's father had his face bitten by a wild bear in 1979 when Kang was seven, and his brother was trampled to death by a wild elephant in 1995.

Four villagers who helped Kang dismember the tiger and ate its meat were also sentenced from three to four years for "covering up and concealing criminal gains".

    Last Tiger

Was the tiger inside a game preserve? Was the knowledge published and well know to all that the tiger was the last one? Then again, what was he doing out at night with a gun? We call it poaching here, other there it is called gathering dinner.

    WAKE UP

The past 2 comments are ridiculous and that is one of the problems with some of the humans. Conscious or Unconscious. Coherent or Incoherent. As someone that works with Endangered Species and has worked with big cats they rarely go out at night and simply attack someone. He was allready clamming and fishing for his supper. No excuse. Wake up World.... No need for man to dominate everything. There is a very big illegal animal trafficking market right up there with drug trafficking. He probally killed the tiger to sell his parts. Tiger medicine is used in some Chinese medicines as is bears and that is one of the reasons many of our animals are going extinct. Besides the point of the unconscious humans destroying natural habitats. ****WAKE UP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE***** Walk gently upon our Planet Earth and be good to one another,to the planet, animals, plants, etc Aho Mitakuye Oyasin, Zorro

    The Human cancer

The first two posts are proof positive that the human species will justify the death and destruction of all biological life on the planet. Mankind is already responsible for driving the extinction of some 100 animal and plant species EVERY 24 HOURS, according to the United States National Academies of Science, yet during this same time period the world human population expanded by 220,000. But as the first writer remarked,
