Livingston Man Killed in St. Helena Parish





NEWS RELEASE



August 3, 2006

At 2:45 AM, on August 3, 2006, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one vehicle crash involving a Livingston resident. The crash occurred on LA.449 at milepost 16.4 in St. Helena Parish.

A 1998 GMC pick-up, driven by Christopher J. Stewart, Jr. (W/M/Age 21) of Livingston, LA, was traveling southbound on LA.449, one mile south of LA.16. The GMC pick-up traveled off the right side of the roadway, the driver then overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the roadway sideswiping a tree and impacting a dirt embankment. Seat belts were not worn by the occupants of the vehicle.

The driver, Christopher J. Stewart, Jr. of Livingston, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Helena Coroner, Jim Varnado, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is suspected in the crash. Blood was obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The passenger, Jeremy D. Newland (W/M/Age 22) of Walker, LA, was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Hood Hospital where he received treatment for moderate injuries.
