Greenpeace forest activists deported form Indonesia
    China National News
    Friday 27th November, 2009

Indonesia has said it will deport seven foreign Greenpeace activists who were involved in a protest against the Asia Pulp and Paper company, which they have accused of deforestation practices.

The seven were detained in Riau province on Sumatra island after they chained themselves to a crane at the port used by Asia Pulp and Paper.

The activists are from Belgium, Germany, the Philippines and the United States.

Estimates from the Greenpeace organisation have put Indonesia third on the list of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters.

Indonesia deported 13 foreign Greenpeace activists and two foreign journalists earlier this month after a similar protest in Riau.

Greenpeace has called on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to take action against deforestation in Indonesia, prior to the global climate change talks in Copenhagen in December.
