Kyalami estate gets powerline broadband
BY DAVE GLAZIER , ITWEB JOURNALIST
[ Johannesburg, 29 September 2006 ] - Local property developer Zotos Property has signed a partnership with Goal Technology Solutions to bring powerline communication (PLC) broadband to a new estate in Kyalami.

The service is currently only available as a demonstration network in the new upmarket Park24 development. Warren McFadyen, technical relationship manager at Goal, says the contract with Zotos involves serving all 24 houses (yet to be built) with a telephone and broadband solution using the existing electricity grid within the estate.

Externally, the service should provide homeowners with downlink speeds comparable with a DSL 512 product, with far quicker speeds for the connections between the houses, he notes.

Goal is also involved in a 62-house residential PLC broadband solution in Verresig, Pretoria, and McFadyen sees growing demand for such a service, especially considering poor response times and service delivery from Telkom.

Goal CEO Adrian Maguire points out the benefits of the service: “Not only do system and communication management integration save substantial costs, but the management and the availability of information becomes streamlined and sustainable within a secure environment.”

Antonia Zotos, marketing manager at Zotos Property, says one of the main benefits of the service is increased security by allowing residents to easily communicate between themselves and the guardhouse.

“It also adds value to the whole of the development, and brings a cost saving to communication both internally and externally,” she says.

A 1GB monthly cap will cost residents R520, and 500MB will be R280, according to Goal.
